My visit to the Lego SingHub with a group of Student Leaders from my alma mater, Singapore Chinese Girls School, was indeed inspiring and educational. This is part of the school’s Careers Project to showcase today’s workplace and how employee well-being is so highly regarded. As innovation is a key business driver, it is important to establish an environment to enable creativity, fun and play. After all, the workplace is literally the “second home” to many.

We were also treated to Brick Games to stimulate memory, hone communication and observation skills as well as build team camaraderie. Play@the workplace clearly helps to develop innovation capabilities. The Lego team shared how they embrace technological advancements in achieving operational excellence and staying relevant with customers of today and tomorrow, enhancing marketing activities with augmented reality. However, they remain true to the Lego brick, a timeless plastic building block that expands ideas and increases creative imagination. Lego leverages on Apps such the Lego Hidden Side to improve customer experience through interactive play and learn sessions.

The Lego workplace also reflects the organisation’s strong inclusive culture -a much appreciated insight and “BIG THANKS” to our host.

It has been a rewarding 5 years helping SMEs to build their local infrastructure prior for expansion by new channels or going abroad. It is also my privilege to serve customers across two generations and today, many of my SME customers are transitioning from the founder generation to the next generation to build sustainability by taking on the tasks to grow the family business through digital transformation and internationalisation .

One such client, Shalom International Movers Pte. Ltd., has taken on digital transformation in its stride and has been steadily building capabilities and capacity in preparation for its next phase of growth and ensuring sustainability each step of the way. Kudos to its Leaders and team members for attaining Enterprise Singapore’s Business Excellence (BE) Singapore Quality Class (SQC) with People Niche and Innovation Niche Certification. It is indeed a commendable achievement and Nuclei Brand Marketing Solutions (NBMS) is pleased to have rendered valuable support.

“Knowledge gives freedom to all” a saying that is deeply etched in my mind. Knowledge is perhaps the one thing ( pending that all our mental faculties are in tact) that cannot be taken away and has the capacity to grow and grow.

A popular estimate highlighted that 65% of children primary school today will ultimately end up working in completely new job types that don’t yet exist. Today, some pre-schoolers are already attending coding class and able to write basic programming as published in The Straits Times on 25 February 2019. Unthinkable in the past but a reality of today.

We are at the threshold of Industrial 4.0 and the development of artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, 3D printing and biotechnology are disrupting more and more industries. As entire industries undergo transformation, some jobs are threatened by redundancy. Workers need to embrace change and embark on a continuous learning journey to weather the disruptions ahead.

The Singapore Continuing Education & Training (CET) Masterplan, launched in 2008, has been refreshed in 2014 to better ensure a career resilient and competitive workforce. Whilst employees are encouraged to garner new knowledge and gain new skills competencies, employers focus on building capabilities & skills.

The Human Resource function no longer plays an administrative role but one that is involved in strategies focusing on people and talent management, building capabilities and growing capacity to meet the changes in the market place. Today, Human Resource plays a critical role in driving a culture of innovation, providing a robust Learning & Development Roadmap in line with the country’s respective industrial skills framework .

I truly appreciate the value of the three HR Managers whom I had the privilege to work with at Procter & Gamble. They were of different nationalities and possessed different styles but we all share the same passion for our people, their individual learning & development opportunities and well being. Through Learning & Development we engage, energize, enable and empower our people!

Officially Squared On-Line ( Digital Marketing by Google): The journey began with a push from a client who wanted me to get first hand experience of what their organisation is going through in building capabilities during this time of digital transformation. The 5 months intense programme has updated and honed my marketing skills competencies and helped build camaraderie with fellow Squares. We have learnt not only to work productively in teams but respect the opinion of others. Google tools such as Google Hangouts & Google Drive enabled connectivity across multiple time zones and provided the ease of sharing materials. Great choice of Subject Experts and the Support team rendered invaluable services. Cheers to the Squared On-line Team!

Singapore Chinese Girls’ School Careers Education Day

This is the second year the SCGS Alumni Exco is assisting the school with its Career Education Day. The overwhelming response from alums in support of our alma mater has indeed been heartwarming. It is evident that in today’s Volatile, Uncertain, Complex & Ambiguous world driven by disruptive technology, we see new jobs emerging which were non existent say 10 years ago. With digitalization being the future, young children as early as 5 years are already attending Coding classes. Exhibits by lower secondary school students using coding to create Carnival games and the sharing of concepts using Robotics in Logistics are part of today’s enrichment curriculum.

The Media, Communications and Public Relations careers involved new skills set as in social media marketing, data analytics, programmatic advertising etc. These skills set require constant upgrading as technological advancements take on a crazy rate of change. Even writers and authors are moving into eBooks. The playing field has changed drastically.

The SCGS Secondary School Students were also enriched with the sharing of speakers from the Healthcare, Legal, Banking, Finance, Accounting, Management Consultancy, Public Service & Education,Engineering, Architecture & Urban Planning and the Creatives (Art & Design, Theatre) Sectors.

As Millennials are said to prefer working in start-ups,drawn to the Start-up Culture, so Entrepreneurs and Tech Startups Speakers were also given centre stage.

Fellow alumni members who are involved in careers with Community & Social Impact also shared their jobs at NGOs tracking in remote Farmland in Asia & Africa, analysing data, evaluating proposals as Grant-Makers. Super cool!

Students also listened keenly to opportunities in the Singapore Space Technology Industry involving research and other space related activities.

Making a career choice is even tougher than before. Our panel speakers wisely advise the students to be brave and that it is ok to make career changes. They encourage the students to leverage on internships to learn more about the nature of jobs & work environments. Having the right attitude with the eagerness to learn is the key to success.

Looking forward to SCGS Careers Education Day 2019 in celebration of SCGS 120th Anniversary! Calling out to old SCGS girls – give back with your time, join us next year!

At the opening of the P&G ONWARD event on 22nd Oct 2019, Guest-Of-Honor, Mr. Ted Tan/ Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Singapore shared the prospect of ASEAN growing Digital Economy with Industry 4.0 building a holistic Ecosystem.

P&G recognizes that Digitalization is the key to the future and threw the gauntlet to industry names, such as Accenture, Amazon, Microsoft & Salesforce, SMEs / start-ups and academic experts to solve the biggest challenges in APAC & IMEA across P&G Brands and markets through digital & emerging technologies. The Prize – the opportunity to participate into the P&G Partner Eco-system, co-create Solutions and get a commercial contract to collaborate with P&G to pilot and scale up the Solution to solve business problems. This event clearly reflects the Organizational Culture consistent with its values and encourages learning and innovation in the achievement of its strategic goals.

Fellow SMEs and I are delighted to be part of this exciting event and we have gained valuable insights from the distinguished key note speaker from Microsoft on “Digital Driving Acceleration with Retail and Consumers in CPG/ FMCG” and panel discussion on “How Artificial Intelligence is Disrupting Brands.”

It was awesome to be part of Shalom Movers’ led initiative ( involving 3 Logistics Associations;the Singapore Logistics Association, the Singapore Transport Association & the Singapore Aircargo Agents Association) to visit the Procter & Gamble Singapore Innovation Center and the Asia Pacific Planning Center. As Singapore SMEs embark on their digital transformation journey this insightful opportunity to learn of best in class practices is truly invaluable.

Big thanks to Enterprise Singapore, the enabler, and our host P&G for engaging with local SMEs at such meaningful dialogue sessions.

As I am more and more involved in digital transformation projects,I am so encouraged by Customer Relationships Guru’s, Don Peppers’ highlight on Trust as a strong point of difference (POD) providing the competitive advantage. In my career track, I pride myself to have served 2 generations of customers and the attributes of trust & reliability provided the smooth transition from one generation to another. However, it is important to stay relevant with the times through continuous learning and at the same time offer value as a “knowledge worker”.

Trust translates to competency, quality and good intentions to do the best for the customer. I can’t help but notice the apprehension and hesitation of clients to share their business plans at preliminary business meetings. This is perfectly understandable as we need to earn “Trust. Hence, we should not take “Trust” for granted and as the customer business relationship grows deeper it is even more important to build the “Extreme Trust” that Don Peppers has called out as the one that is proactive.

In this disruptive environment where technology advancements are faster than ever before, we need to take heed of including the human element through building trust with both our internal customers (ie our employees) and external customers to grow their loyalty.

Learn More on Trust Relationships with Don Peppers on YouTube.

Renown author Charles H Green shares that in a business relationship, trust is the most important determinant of success . Nuclei Brand Marketing Solutions strongly encourage its clients in building trust through the pursuit of Business Excellence.

Technology company Secur Solutions Group BE Certification has clearly demonstrated this in its recent acquisition of prized customers, a real feather in its cap.
